Retirement Wardrobe Essentials
First things first—I know I’m not retired. I’ve been running my women’s clothing shop for twenty years, and there’s no close date in sight. But I do help women in my age category find their style after retirement, and I wanted to share a few things that come up in those conversations.
Before you toss your workwear…
Take a pause and think about which pieces you genuinely love. I still have a few from back in the day, and trust me—there are ways to weave them into your new retired look without losing your edge.
Next up: Get a hobby.
Not what you thought I was going to say? Good.
You were expecting a list of “retirement wardrobe must-haves,” weren’t you? Here's the thing—I don’t know your life, and I’m not about to tell you to buy a bunch of stuff you’re not going to wear. What I do want is for you to feel comfortable and confident in whatever you do choose.
Let’s talk scenarios:
If you’re retired but not done working:
Plenty of my girls retired from the 9–5 but weren’t ready to stop showing up. If you’re doing consulting, teaching, or running side gigs—go for true business casual.
Favourites: Habitat and Joseph Ribkoff for polished, put-together pieces.
If you’re retired and off traveling the world:
First of all—go you! You’ll want travel-friendly styles that don’t wrinkle, pack well, and mix easily.
Favourites: Orientique Australia and Charlie B for versatile, low-maintenance travel outfits.
If you’re retired and starting your own business:
(This is my personal recommendation, by the way.)
You’re your own boss now, so wear what makes you feel powerful.
Favourites: Foxcroft for elevated button-ups, Yoga Jeans for comfy polish, and don’t miss this printed set—it’s a total showstopper. Bonus - get something with a print to add a little colour!
