Effortless Summer Style: Practical Tips with Three Wild Women Favourites
So, before we get too far into this blog I thought it would be fun to give you tips from we three ladies who keep this place going. Now, Three Wild Women’s name comes from me - me in my twenties, my fifties and now in my seventies - but the three that keep this place going?
Well, myself, I’m Helen. I’m the owner of Three Wild Women. I have my chicken arms that I don’t love, a huge family that I do. My favourite pastime is to go to the movies and I’ve seen just about everything that’s out in theatre.
Skippy - you’ve seen her skipping around the social media - is one of my best friends and we’ve been together since our waitressing days and well, I’ll just let her introduce herself.
Haha, I’m Skippy, better known as Deb, and I’m very active but I’ve had a skinny up and down frame since I was a kid. I love dressing in black and white but Helen and the girls have pushed me into colour and I’m slooooooowly coming around to it. I have a son and a husband and I have one cup of tea in the morning and that’s all the energy I need.
And then we have Leslie, she’s our store manager and although you may not see her on social media all the time, you do see her in the store. If you’ve ever called the store - you’ve most certainly spoken to her on the phone.
What a nice introduction Helen, thank you, and hello to you! Thank you for coming to the Three Wild Women blog. I’m not sure how we’re all going to give our opinions here but we’ll try to keep things clear. I love clothes but wearing them my way. It’s a little more creative than maybe some other people would and that’s fine. It does take practice but I’m happy to share my tips and tricks along the way.
Now that you know the whole gang, let’s get into it!
Summer’s here, and nobody has time for clothes that stick, pinch, or end up in the back of the closet after one wear. At Three Wild Women, we stock pieces designed for real summer living—breezy, beautiful, and built to be worn.
Here’s how to dress for heat, humidity, and everyday life—tips from the Three Wild Women.
1. Choose breathable fabrics that feel cool from AM to PM
Nothing beats 100% cotton and light linen when the mercury climbs.
Helen: I would recommend Orientique Australia but I like colours and prints and I’ve got good legs (not that I’m supposed to tell the internet that). It’s generous and machine-washable—great for days at the beach or casual dinners in Westboro, but also fun with a little topper for the movies.
Skippy:I love the Dunes Cotton Dress Matico – a mid-calf cotton dress with a breezy side slit and flattering V-neck. Toss it in the wash, tumble dry low, and it’s ready for your next adventure… and it’s black.
Leslie: You both are going for dresses and I’m totally on a different wavelength! I’m thinking Minkas Wire Collar Top, lightweight, easy to wear with leggingings or jeans, you can add a bright pant like the Charlie B slim pant in a pink or yellow and you’ve got a great summer look.
No matter what your style, the point is always to stay cool without looking like resortwear.
2. Add cover-up pieces for comfort and style
Even on the hottest days, you might walk into air-conditioned spaces— like the movie theatre - or want a little arm cover.
Helen: I love a good loose open-weave cardigan. I’m going through hot flashes, I have bingo wings and I feel just a bit better when my arms are covered. The Marie La Lune Sweater has been my go-to since we brought them in.
Skippy: I love wearing a topper for an event and for me the summer is full of events. Golf tournaments, weddings, you know? Those fancy things where you want to feel a little dressed up? So the Sterling Styles jackets are what I would go for. A little more on the fancy side but that way I’m not buying a whole new dress for every occasion.
Leslie: I’m all about the classic jean jacket with a twist and we have a really fun one from Joseph Ribkoff (Canadian) with sparkles. Now, I know I’m saying sparkles but it just adds this little bit of fun and means that if you’re not an accessories person you can still get that finished look.
3. Mix in colour—but keep it wearable
If you’ve shied away from colour, summer’s a great time to dip a toe in…Deb.
Skippy: I’ve been trying colour! I actually really like the teal Dunes Cotton jumpsuit with coloured topper. I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone!
Leslie: No, Skippy - you’ve been doing great with your colours! I think the easiest way for people to add colours into their wardrobe is with a pop of jewelry. We have some great World Finds Necklaces in all sorts of beautiful colours and you can wear them all year.
Helen: and I think that if you find a colour you like just stick to it. Blues, pinks, whatever it is don’t let anyone bully you into having more in your pallette because you just won’t wear them.
So, that’s what we have to say about summer styling. Let me know what you thought of this style of blog post and if you liked it I’ll rope the girls into doing more of these!
